THE
SCHOOL
Balboa Academy is an American international, coeducational, college preparatory
school that offers a US curriculum education for Pre-Kindergarten through
the 12th grade. All courses are taught in English. The Academy
was established in Panama City, Panama, in August 1999 and graduated its
first senior class of 16 in June 2000. A majority of the seniors
enroll in four-year universities in the United States or Panama. Balboa
Academy students represent a diversity of economic, social, and cultural
backgrounds. A Board of Trustees composed of founding educators and a Board
of Directors composed of parents and educators govern the non-profit school.
THE
FACULTY
Balboa Academy, 2010-2011, has a faculty of 72 full time and 2 part time
teachers, 2 educational specialist, 6 education technicians, 5
administrators, and 34counselors. Thirty-seven faculty members have Masters
degrees and two teachers have Doctorate degrees. There are 56 US teachers,
15 local and 4 third country teachers. The pupil teacher ratio is
approximately 11 to 1.
THE
STUDENT BODY
The Balboa Academy’s current enrollment for first semester school year
2010-2011 is 830 students.
The nationality of the student body is approximately 40% US, 25% Panamanian,
and 35% international from 46 countries.
The high school student population is 225 (53 Seniors, 57 Juniors, 57
Sophomores and 57 Freshmen).
The middle school (Grades 5, 6, 7, and 8) has 236 students enrolled.
The elementary school (Grades K thru 4) has 293 students enrolled.
The pre-kindergarten has 77 students enrolled.

AND MEMBERSHIPS
Balboa
Academy is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education, Republic of
Panama, and AdvancEd,
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - Council
on Accreditation and School Improvement, (SACS-CASI).in
the United States. Balboa Academy is also a member of professional
organizations, which relate to the secondary level. These include:
American School Counselors Association
The National Honor Society
The College Entrance Examination Board
The Association of American Schools in Central America
DIPLOMA
REQUIREMENTS
To graduate from Balboa Academy, a student must complete 28 credits; 4
credits each of English, Science, and a Foreign Language;
3 credits each of Mathematics and History; 1 ½ credits in Health and
Personal Fitness, 1 credit each of Fine Arts and Computer Technology;
and 6½ credits of electives. All high school students are expected to
participate in a community service project.
