On August 1, 2015, Ms. Erinn Magee began her tenure as Balboa Academy’s new Director. She joined Balboa Academy in 2002 as a High School Social Studies Teacher. In 2006, Ms. Magee was named High School Principal. Before Balboa Academy, she taught at the American-Nicaraguan School.
Ms. Magee holds Bachelor of Arts Degrees in History and Anthropology from Appalachian State University, and a Masters of Education from Framingham State University. Ms Magee is currently completing her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Missouri. The topic of her dissertation focuses on understanding how student leaders can take the lead in creating caring environments in international schools.
Balboa Academy enrolls students from over forty countries. As High School principal, Ms.Magee helped to cultivate a culture that’s creative, tolerant, and accepting—among students, faculty, and parents, alike. As a result, Balboa Academy has developed a tradition of welcoming new students with open arms and, when they move on, they remember the school as a place where they were part of a family.
Over the years, the emotional support Balboa Academy provides its students has encouraged them to excel in academically challenging classes. In recent years, the school has seen a dramatic increase in the numbers of students who take Advanced Placement (AP) courses and successfully pass their exams.
As Director, Ms. Magee will make sure that Balboa Academy’s rigorous English-language curriculum continues to meet the standards for U.S. accreditation as well as those of Panama’s Ministry of Education. In addition, the school also will routinely evaluate its educational programs to ensure that the students who graduate from Balboa Academy have the skills necessary to succeed in college as well as being prepared to play a part in making this world a better place.
Ms. Magee looks forward to collaborating with every member of Balboa Academy’s community. To contact our Director, please email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
