An environment is provided where students are assisted in becoming positive and self-directed learners.  The guidance program advocates equal academic and career opportunities for all students and provides the support needed to achieve this goal. High School Counselors offer the following services:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Identification and support of students with special needs
  • Promotion of positive attitudes and choices
  • Support of teachers and parents to better assist students
  • Assistance with community service requirement and the use of community resources
  • Coordination of the exchange with and support from other school programs
  • Referrals to outside agencies
  • Preventive services
  • Confidentiality


College and Career Guidance Services


  • Career guidance is provided through the counselors.  Students complete career tests to determine their interests and strengths.
  • Using appropriate technology, students are guided to investigate and research colleges and summer programs that will assist them in making decisions about colleges and universities.
  • School counselors monitor grades closely to ensure success for all
  • Students attend college fairs and college/university visits on campus
  • PSAT tests are required for all sophomores and juniors
  • SAT guidelines and registration information is provided through the counselor’s office
  • At risk students are closely monitored by the counselors.  Weekly reports are given to parents to communicate and inform students and parents. 
  • Mediation and conflict resolution is ongoing.  The program is available through teacher, parent or peer request.  Individual counseling is also provided as needed.

College Planning

Spring of 11th grade Take SAT or ACT entrance exam
Register through CollegeBoard for SAT exams
Summer of 11th grade Visit Colleges
Attend Summer Pre- College Program
Senior year Complete at least 60 hours of community service
  Sign up for rigorous senior courses
  Revise and check high school credits to meet graduation requirements
  Prepare a list of colleges and universities
  Meet with college representatives and attend all college fairs
  Retake SAT’s and SAT Subject tests if needed
  If not a US citizen, take the TOEFL exam
  Complete college applications
  Request teacher recommendations
