Balboa Academy has
many activities beyond the classroom for not only for the
students but the whole family.
PTSO
The PTSO sponsors many family activities
for the Balboa community such as: Family movie night, Family
skate night, The Fall Festival, Balboa's got talent, Family
Field Day and picnic, Family Art Night, and many more.
These are great opportunities to meet other parent that have
the same common interests. See the PTSO page for a
complete list and the dates.
Student Clubs and Organizations
Student clubs and organizations hold many
after school or lunchtime meetings and activities. Boy
scouts and girl scouts meet at the school weekly and hold
weekend outings. The Debate Club
travels to debates in Panama City, Central America, and to
the Hague in the Netherlands. The French club has
traveled to France for a 10 day visit. The
Ecology/Science Club
has many beach cleanup and other ecological activities and
takes many weekend field trips to watch the sea turtles lay
eggs, the eggs hatch and the little turtles run to the sea.
They go caving and visit many Indian villages, national
parks and ecological sites in the interior of Panama while
studying the flora and fauna. Every other year the
club has taken a 10 day field trip to the Galapagos Islands
and Ecuador. The Art Club in addition
to sponsoring several art shows takes a week field trip to
New York to visit the galleries and museums. The
senior members
of the Political Science club
visits Washington DC for a week of Close-Up to visit the
congress, supreme court, White House, and the many museums
and American historical site in the area. The High
School Student Council attends an annual leadership
conference in Central America where they receive leadership
training. The middle school class officer and student
council visits our partnership school in Poquoson, Virginia
where they visit the middle school and tour the many
American Historical sites in the area. These students
will host a group of Poquoson students on a return visit to
Panama,
Tribes and Houses
The middle school is organized into
tribes. Each tribe consists of students from the 5th
through 8th grade and several teachers. The tribes
plan organize and carryout intramural physical and academics
competitions among the tribes in a monthly field day.
The high school is similarly organized
into Houses composed of students in 9th to 12th grade and
several teachers that also hold intramural competitions in
physical and academic venues in a monthly field day.
Additionally they participate in community service projects.
